| Antique Curve Top Trunk Original Canvas and Interior Working Key Mendel & Co - Cincinnati - Maker Circa 1905 SOLD At 36"L X 25.5"H X 22.5"W, this is a well proportioned and larger size trunk from the very early 1900's. It was made by Mendel & Company in Cincinnati. While it is a curve top, the curve is pretty slight and mostly on the ends. This trunk is long enough that a good bit of the curve has sagged out of the middle. Still, if you are looking for a trunk to use as a coffee table, with all due respect, I would hope to see another one selected and this one given lighter duty. The exterior of this trunk is raw canvas so would be prone to water stains and such. It was originally painted but that day has passed and what remains, is to me, beautiful. The trim is quite nice and a colored fibre which came about as a leather substitute. The trim on this one is perfect and extremely durable. Latches work great, the lock is with key and works like new, and in general everything is tight and works properly. The original straps are present however the end with the holes are broken off so now too short to use. Not so bad being you get the look but do not have to unbuckle. The two roller buckles on the straps are present. The bottom has been made like new. This trunk is extremely smooth and warm to the touch.....this trunks is extremely smooth and warm to the touch. The interior is a thin material and original as well. The tray with bi-fold lid is present. It wipes down just fine when needed and perfect for storage as you wish. If you are one, or you know someone, that can appreciate nice original, this would be a good one to consider. It displays very well and tends to nestle in comfortably in most any surrounding. For something with great original character yet perfectly suited for use, I highly recommend. One of my favorites. |
