Antique Curve Top Trunk
Tray
Circa 1890
SOLD

This antique trunk measures 32"L X 23"H X 20"W. While it may appear as most, it actually is
built quite heavy duty with thicker than average boards, top line latches which will breeze
through another 100 years, heavier duty hinges, tightly spaced nails, and real leather trim.
Subtle but better than average things that add. The lock is highly ornate and on the slightly
unusual side.

Structurally, this trunk is super solid. The leather trim has experienced some decline being loss
of its exterior skin so has been placed under several coats of a finish better bind it. It was
simply time to do so but in this manner it is quite strong and the mass of nail heads clearly
show vs. those on painted metal for example. The hardware, such as the slat clamps are not
overly ornate but are solid metal of good thickness rather than thin stamped metal. The latches
are of the heaviest sort made in this size and I do not see them going anywhere for a long, long
time. Same with the hinges. Just well made and I have added some nice triple thick stitched
leather handles.

The interior is finished wood and no tray was present when found. Seems like it needs one so I
will make and include a nice tray with some leather lift tabs. Should be very nice inside.
Trying to show board thickness above but the edges
are beveled. In this shot, beveled all the way down
to the first piece of hardware on the left. Nothing
crazy, but thicker than they appear in short.
